If I were me, where would I have put it?

When I came home after the weekend I found that the water tank of my coffee maker was gone. I had used it last Thursday and then left to spend a couple of days with my parents. Now I can't find it anywhere. The tank isn't really something you take to the living room when you're lost in thought, where it gets buried under a pile of magazines. I checked the oven, under my bed, in the bathroom – nothing. Every scenario I can think of is equally unlikely. Did somebody break into my apartment and steal it? Did somebody make a copy of my keys, break into my apartment without leaving a trace, install a tiny video camera in my bedroom and then steal the water tank as a cover-up? Who's behind this? Ghosts? Monkeys? The Government?
